Built-in bookshelves are one of our most-requested and most-reviewed services. Unlike freestanding furniture, built-ins are designed to the exact dimensions of your wall, alcove, or flanking space — they look like the house was built around them. We build floor-to-ceiling bookcases with integrated LED lighting, cabinets at the base for concealed storage, adjustable shelving, and decorative crown molding at the top. Perfect for home offices, living rooms, studies, and bedrooms.
Crown molding, coffered ceilings, wainscoting, board-and-batten, window and door casings, picture rail molding, and custom baseboards. These details are what separates a house from a home. Our millwork is cut, fitted, and installed with the precision of a skilled finish carpenter — tight miters, seamless inside corners, and clean lines that paint beautifully.
A custom fireplace mantel changes the entire character of a room. We design and build traditional carved wood surrounds, clean-lined contemporary mantels, farmhouse-style shiplap surrounds, and everything in between — all custom to your fireplace’s exact dimensions and your home’s architectural style.
Shiplap accent walls, slat wood panels, reclaimed wood feature walls, geometric wood tile patterns, and full-room wood paneling. We design the layout, source the material, and install the finished product with a precision that makes every panel line up perfectly. A well-designed accent wall can transform a room in a single day.
We build made-to-order furniture pieces using premium hardwoods and traditional joinery techniques — dining tables, coffee tables, entry benches, console tables, desks, and headboards. Every piece is sized to your space and built to last a lifetime. We also restore and refinish existing furniture pieces.
Custom staircase builds including open-riser treads, box stairs, curved stairs, and custom handrail and baluster systems. We also refinish and repair existing staircases — new treads, updated railings, and stain work that breathes new life into the heart of a two-story home.
First impressions matter. We build custom entryway features — decorative columns, wainscoting, built-in console tables with storage — and mudroom systems with hooks, cubbies, bench seating, and overhead cabinetry that bring order to the highest-traffic area of your home.
Many of our woodwork projects are standalone commissions. But our most transformative work happens when custom woodwork is integrated into a full remodel. When we remodel your kitchen, we’re also the team building your custom cabinets. When we renovate your bathroom, we’re building your vanity. When we do a whole-home renovation, we handle all the millwork, trim, built-ins, and architectural details — maintaining design consistency from room to room in a way no subcontracted team can replicate.
We work with all primary domestic hardwoods — white oak, red oak, maple, cherry, walnut, ash, and hickory — as well as pine and cedar for more rustic or farmhouse-style applications. We source our lumber from trusted domestic suppliers and can accommodate specialty requests including reclaimed wood, live-edge slabs, and exotic species.

Matthias FelleisenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jeff's commitment to his work, as a human-to-human service to his customers, are unparalleled. I have worked with many contractors over the years on various houses, but Jeff is the best. I met with him once, for approximately 15-20 minutes and sketched out the various additions I wanted, including two large bookshelves for my study (see photo for one of them). After that, we communicated via text messages and phone calls. Jeff kept me posted about every step: measuring, spelling out my requirements, specifying the shelves via drawings (plus the electric outlets that come through), the selection of the wood, the choice of lacquer, all the way to the installation (which came with a short video). When I actually got back, the work was done and it was perfect. Don't bother to consider alternatives if you live north of Austin. My kitchen remodel was truly a one-of-a-kind. The cabinets, with inset doors, were made of hand-selected rift-sawn white oak. The wood is stained, and it’s so beautiful it grabs your attention. Building these cabinets required near perfect craftsmanship. There was very little room for error. The free-floating 3 inch thick, solid white oak shelving over the coffee/beverage bar was hand-hewn by Jeff Mitchell and installed using “invisible” steel rods to support these very heavy artistic wooden pieces. He embedded under counter lighting under each shelf. The results are so eye-catching that it summons you to the counter for a cup of coffee just to look at the wood. I highly recommend Jeff and his team to see your vision, and then plan your remodel. I remodeled Arts & Crafts homes of the 1940’s for 8 years. I have a very critical eye, and I’m hard to please. They want to be proud of their work, and they want to please you, too. If there was anything that I did not like, there was never an argument, and it was attended to immediately. Jeff will make it right, his attitude is “we want to make you happy!” He and Rocco are very creative, they love a challenge, and they have the “We can do that” attitude! These skilled craftsmen are absolutely a delight to have on the job. They keep you informed, they keep to the schedule, and they work hard. I was lucky to find them! Shay BainesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was a pleasure to work with Jeff & Robert on my built-in dining room buffet/bar project. Robert diligently worked on finding a stain color that would match existing cabinets. Jeff was great to bounce ideas off when looking for a solution for the shelves to hold significant weight. They had great communication, were punctual and cleaned up all project debris. We asked to push the install to the week after Thanksgiving, and they graciously agreed. We love how the project turned out, and have received many compliments; some saying it appears as if the house was built this way. Anna LaldinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I love my beautiful new sink installed by Mitchell Woodwork and Remodeling! They installed it quickly, did an excellent job, were easy to communicate with, and showed unmatched kindness every step of the way. HomeownerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jeff & his crew did a great job remodeling my entire home including cabinetry, flooring, lighting, baseboards, door frames, plumbing, granite countertops and removing a wall. I would definitely use them again. virginia calleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Mitchell Woodwork and Remodeling team did a great job completely redoing two of our bathrooms. It was a huge project and they work tirelessly in our home even under very difficult circumstances! Our AC went out and they worked for two days in the heat! They cleaned up after themselves at the end of every work day and made every effort to make sure we were pleased with the final product. We now have two bathrooms that look absolutely gorgeous and we are so very thankful! We wish this company the absolute best in all their future endeavors and we hope you will give them an opportunity to work for you!
Custom woodwork is priced by project based on material costs, complexity, size, and installation requirements. A single floating shelf: $300–$800. A full floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcase system: $3,000–$8,000. A complete home millwork package: $8,000–$20,000+ depending on square footage.
Smaller projects — a single shelf, a mantel, an accent wall — typically complete in 1–3 days. Built-in bookcases and room millwork packages run 1–2 weeks including shop build time. Full home millwork is scheduled in phases alongside other remodeling work.
Yes — and we particularly enjoy it. Older homes often have non-standard dimensions, unusual wall angles, and character details that require an experienced eye and hand. We’ve successfully matched and extended original millwork profiles in homes from the 1940s onward.
